Saft Li-ion energy storage systems ready to meet the growing market for
self-consumption in residential PV installations
* Germany's current incentive program is driving a significant take-off in interest in domestic self-consumption solutions * Saft provides battery systems adapted for integration within OEM equipment and standalone solutions
Munich, June 19, 2013 - Saft, the world's leading designer and manufacturer of advanced technology batteries for industry, is at Intersolar 2013 to show how its expanding ranges of state-of-the-art lithium-ion (Li-ion) energy storage systems now enable owners of residential photovoltaic (PV) installations to store their surplus solar energy for later consumption, rather than feeding it in to the grid. Germany's current incentive program is a key driver for this growing trend towards self-consumption, and visitors to stand B5.281 will see how Saft Synerion(r) Li-ion battery modules can be either integrated within OEM equipment or deployed in the standalone Intensium(r) Home storage system to provide effective and efficient residential energy storage.
At the other end of the energy storage spectrum, Saft is also showing its expanding range of Intensium(r) Max containerized solutions designed for large megawatt-scale PV plant, which now includes the high energy Intensium(r) Max+ 20E that provides 1 MWh of storage capacity in a standard 20 foot container.
Li-ion storage solutions are now in series production for PV self-consumption projects Saft's maintenance-free Li-ion technology, manufactured in Saft's most recent, state-of-the art industrial plants in Nersac, France and Jacksonville, Florida, is field proven to provide extremely efficient and flexible energy storage that supports the highly dynamic charge and discharge cycling profiles found in renewables applications, with the added advantage of a 20-year service life under daily cycling conditions.
Saft is supplying Li-ion batteries to OEMs who are integrating them into residential PV energy management systems, one innovative example: the Bosch BPT-S 5 Hybrid, another is the Schüco "Energy Manager" These developments result from extensive technical partnerships with both OEMs, who are delivering the systems through their sales channels with service support from Saft.
Intensium(r) Home provides the ideal standalone solution to team with power inverters For installers seeking a standalone battery solution, Saft has introduced Intensium(r) Home, which is fully compatibility tested and validated for use with a variety of PV or battery inverters, such as SMA "Sunny Island", Nedap "Powerrouter" or Schneider Electric. Saft is working directly with installers and distributors to train them on how to install and use these cabinet systems, as well as providing service support. N° 33-13 www.saftbatteries.com
Saft has pioneered the practical application of Li-ion energy storage solutions for PV applications, including the Sol-ion project that introduced Li-ion batteries into PV systems on the largest scale ever tested in Europe. This extensive experience has enabled Saft to gain the design competence and technical knowhow to offer value-added solutions, ranging from individual high-tech battery modules to complete standalone systems, developed to meet the performance, reliability and safety needs of the developing market for self-consumption.
